QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Queen Elizabeth National Park was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park, and renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in Kasese district, about 370 km south west of Kampala the capital city of Uganda. Kasese town was formerly known for the lucrative cooper mines and the Mountain Rwenzori also known as the mountains of the moon. Fort portal district can also be used to access Queen Elizabeth national park and that’s why it is called the tourist town. Driving from fort portal to Queen Elizabeth national park consumes less than 1 hour so you can make a stop in fort portal town during your safari in Queen Elizabeth national park.

It is understandably Uganda’s most popular tourist destination. The park’s diverse ecosystems which include sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands make it the ideal habitat for over 95 mammal species, over 606 bird species, 10 species of primates, reptiles and a variety of insects like butterflies among others. Set against the backdrop of the jagged Rwenzori Mountains, the park’s magnificent vistas include dozens of enormous craters carved dramatically into rolling green hills and panoramic views of the Kazinga Channel
